Process
Research and decisions. The client had one request, an interactive map. What seemed like a simple request became difficult quickly. The client had no preexisting website or digital content but provided a printed map with tons of information about the river’s past and present states. It became my task to decide what was the most pertinent information to show the users based on the design/user goals.

Problem
How might we create an interactive experience that is educational, user activated, accessible, and true to the Duwamish/Green River history.

“The majority of people in Seattle do not know their river. The first step toward stewardship is knowledge and familiarity.”
- BJ Cummings

Goal
To create an interactive design that empowers the users: Learn, visit, donate and/or volunteer.

Solution
A desktop and mobile interactive site design centered around a timeline that inspires users to learn about the Duwamish river’s past, present and future. An immersive discovery experience that empowers the community to get involved. I further solved the users’/client’s problem by providing multiple ways to share information, to filter the map results to their preferences, and to allow for accessibility and localization.
